There was a time when every house, garage, and alley had one of these sitting out back. Real metal, dented up, loud as anything when you dropped the lid — and somehow they all disappeared.

This is a set of classic old-style metal trash cans, the kind just about everyone used to have before plastic took over. They’re modeled in correct 1:48 O-gauge scale, roughly representing those familiar 30–32 gallon galvanized cans that seemed to last forever. Straight sides, rolled rim, and that unmistakable shape that instantly says “backyard” or “alley” without needing any explanation.

They work perfectly behind a house, next to a garage, in an alley, by a small business, or tucked up against a shed. Leave them clean, or rough them up with a little weathering and they suddenly look like they’ve been sitting there since about 1965, which is usually exactly the point.

I made these for my own layout because they’re one of those everyday details that really sells a scene, and they’re oddly hard to find anymore. Once they were in place, they felt so natural it was obvious they belonged, so I made a few extras.
