NO-OX-ID A-Special is a professional-grade electrical contact compound widely used by model railroaders to reduce rail oxidation, stalling, and intermittent electrical pickup. This is not an abrasive track cleaner or solvent. It is a preventative treatment designed to keep oxidation from forming after track has been cleaned.

Model railroaders running Lionel O gauge, American Flyer S gauge, and HO layouts commonly use NO-OX-ID to improve electrical reliability, especially at slow speeds, turnouts, and other problem areas where oxidation causes hesitation or power dropouts.

Application tip (important)
The trick to using NO-OX-ID is using very little. Rub a small amount onto clean rail. If you can see it, there’s too much. Most users apply it, run trains to distribute it, then wipe off any visible residue. What’s left is a microscopic film that does the work.

Track pin bonus
NO-OX-ID also works very well on track pins. A light wipe on the pins helps lubricate them so track sections go together more easily, and many users find it also improves electrical conductivity at the rail joints. This can be especially helpful on older track where pin connections are a common source of voltage drop.
