O Gauge Gas Station CANOPY Mod for Plasticville
\"Someone Left the Pumps Out in the Rain...\"
Maybe it’s not a hit song, but it’s definitely a problem on a lot of O-Gauge layouts. I always thought it was strange that Plasticville gave us these iconic gas stations but left the pumps (and the customers) completely exposed to the elements. I’ve never seen a real station that didn\'t have a canopy, so I decided to build the one Plasticville forgot.
Designed for Realism, Built for Stability
This 3D-printed canopy is the \"missing piece\" for your vintage station. It transforms a generic plastic toy into a believable mid-century business.
While the Canopy is the star of the show, I engineered the base to solve a common hobbyist headache: tipping pumps. My design features a solid, wide base that the upright posts and the roof strongly interlock into. It’s a rugged, one-piece feel that requires no glue, providing a stable foundation that won\'t budge when you’re moving your die-cast cars around the pumps.
The \"Mentone Silent Treatment\" Realism
The details in this kit are a tribute to my \"part, part-time\" days at the gas station in Mentone, California. I wanted this model to feel like the real thing, right down to the driveway hose.
I’ve included a specific length of black wire to represent that classic rubber \"ding-ding\" hose. In the spirit of total authenticity, it is exactly like the one I remember from the station in Mentone: you can run over it a thousand times and it won\'t do a thing. It didn\'t make a sound then, and it doesn\'t make a sound now. It’s purely there for the \"look\"—and the look is spot on.
