The 20-Inch AM Broadcast Tower: With \"Stealth\" Conduit
In the mid-century, the AM radio tower was a staple of the American landscape. Whether you were driving across the plains or through a growing suburb, these towers were the towering link to the news, the weather, and the music of the day. Depending on the station’s power and signal pattern, you’d often see them standing alone or grouped in a row of two or three.
Standing a full 20 inches tall, this O-Gauge (1:48) tower is designed to give your layout that same sense of scale. It isn\'t just a small detail; it’s a landmark that defines your horizon.
The \"Stealth\" Conduit: No Visible Wires
The biggest challenge with modeling a tall lattice tower is how to light it without ruined the look with messy wires. I’ve built a concealed conduit directly into one of the legs of the tower. Your wiring stays completely hidden inside the structure from the base all the way to the top.
I’ve also designed access gaps at every color change (where the orange meets the white). This allows you to easily pop out a flashing LED at each section for a professional, tiered lighting effect without having to drill or fish for wires.
